An early 20th-century mahogany spinet piano style writing desk. The rectangular top is fitted with a raised superstructure comprising two banks of two small drawers, each with decorative brass drop handles on shaped backplates, flanking a central open niche. A single long frieze drawer is positioned below the main desk surface, featuring a matching central brass handle. The desk is supported at the front by two substantial, heavily turned and carved bulbous legs, with two square-section legs at the rear, all mounted upon a solid, shaped plinth base that follows the profile of the desktop. The timber appears to be mahogany or a mahogany-stained hardwood with a dark finish. No maker’s marks are visible on the exterior or accessible interior areas.
