Lot 398 A Pair of Edwardian Ruby Red Threaded Glass Vases one with a Birmingham Sterling Silver Mount

A pair of early 20th-century ruby red threaded glass vases. Both vessels are constructed from cranberry glass featuring fine horizontal glass threading wrapped continuously around the body, a decorative technique characteristic of high-quality English glass production from the Stourbridge region, such as Stevens and Williams.

The first vase is of tall, tapering cylindrical form, featuring a sterling silver mounted rim. The second vase is a pedestal form with a bulbous body supported by an applied clear glass three-toed crimped foot.

The silver rim on the tapering vase is struck with a full set of British hallmarks: a maker mark W&H for William Hutton and Sons Ltd, an anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, a lion passant for sterling silver purity, and a lowercase date letter e for 1904.
