A 20th-century military steel ammunition box, possibly of NATO or British origin and in the style of those produced by manufacturers such as Burrowes Mfg. Co. The rectangular container is constructed from welded steel and features a side-hinged lid secured by a heavy-duty toggle latch with an integrated security hole. A recessed, folding metal carry handle is mounted to the top of the lid. The interior of the lid retains a rubberised seal designed to protect the contents from moisture and environmental factors. The internal floor of the box features a rectangular reinforcement stamping. The exterior surface retains remnants of olive drab paint over a dark grey or black primer. This design was widely utilised for the storage and transport of belted small arms ammunition, typically 7.62mm NATO rounds. No manufacturer markings or serial numbers are visible due to surface wear.
