A First World War period trench art vase fashioned from a British brass 2-pounder Quick Firing (QF) artillery shell casing. The upper rim of the casing has been hand-cut into a distinctive crown pattern with fourteen pointed serrations. The body of the vase features hand-worked decorative motifs, including stylised long-stemmed flowers resembling tulips arranged in a footed vase, created using a combination of chasing and repoussé techniques. The base of the shell casing displays several stamped military markings including 2 Pr No. I, a circled I, Q.F. (A), C F, and the British broad arrow symbol (pheon). Hand-engraved cursive text reading alw is positioned above the numerals 1917 on the base, likely representing the initials of the artisan or soldier who created the piece.
