Lot 207 A Trio of British Military Brass Cartridge Cases including Engine Starter and 30mm Shells

A trio of British military brass cartridge cases dating from the mid-20th century. The collection includes two large Cartridge Electric Engine Starter (CEES) cases and one 30mm cannon shell casing. The engine starter cases are stamped on the base with markings including CART. ELEC. ENG. START. NO 10 MK 5 / 1 and 10 MK 3. A Broad Arrow (pheon) mark is also present, signifying British government property. These large-format cartridges were designed to provide a high-pressure burst of gas to spin up early jet engines, such as the Rolls-Royce Avon found in aircraft like the English Electric Canberra. The smaller casing is stamped 30MM on the rim, identifying it as a 30mm ADEN cannon shell case, a standard ordnance for British fighter aircraft of the Cold War era. All items are constructed from drawn brass with rimmed bases and show clear evidence of being fired.
