A sculptural studio pottery bowl of shallow, circular form. The exterior is densely encrusted with a series of hand-applied, overlapping ceramic scrolls or cup-like elements, creating a highly textured, organic appearance reminiscent of marine life or fungal growth. The piece is finished with a contrasting glaze technique where the interiors of the sculptural elements are a cream or off-white with fine crazing, while the edges and the recesses between them are finished in a dark, pooled ferruginous or tenmoku-style brown glaze. The interior of the bowl features a dark, glossy glaze. The piece is made of stoneware with a white body. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible.
