A large steelyard balance scale of the type traditionally used for weighing meat carcasses. The instrument is constructed from polished chrome-plated steel and comprises a long primary beam graduated from 10 to 300 lbs, terminating with the inscription 300 LBS. A secondary shorter beam is graduated to 1 lb and features the stamped initials J.L.B. above the markings. The scale is equipped with a large double-pronged butcher’s hook for suspending loads, a top suspension hook for mounting, and a secondary load hook near the central pivot. It includes two sliding counterweights, consisting of a large spherical poise on the primary beam and a smaller rectangular slider on the secondary beam. A small circular verification stamp is present near the pivot point.
