A contemporary two drawer filing cabinet constructed in the Georgian style. The piece features a rectangular top with highly figured fiddleback or satinwood veneers, finished with crossbanded borders and a moulded edge. The two deep drawers are similarly veneered with matching crossbanding and moulded picture frame surrounds. The drawers are constructed with machine-cut dovetail joints and are internally fitted with metal hanging rails for suspension files. Each drawer is fitted with a central brass bail handle on a decorative backplate. The cabinet rests on a substantial moulded plinth base. The brass lock plates on the top edge of each drawer bear stamped marks, including the words PATENT and PROPRIETORS on the right side above a Royal Coat of Arms, BY APPOINTMENT centrally, and a second Royal Coat of Arms on the left with worn text ending in & CO, characteristic of high-quality British lock manufacturers such as Hobbs & Co. or Chubb.
