A silver British War Medal (1914-1918) awarded to commemorate service during the Great War. The obverse features the coinage head of King George V facing left, with the Latin legend GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP: The reverse depicts St. George on horseback, nude and armed with a short sword, trampling underfoot the Prussian eagle shield and the skull and crossbones. The dates 1914 and 1918 are positioned in the upper and lower fields respectively. The medal is officially impressed on the rim with the recipient details: 7753 PTE. W. J. NYE. DEVON. R. Research indicates the recipient was Private W. J. Nye of the Devonshire Regiment. The medal retains its original swivel bar suspension.
