Two Japanese porcelain vases of baluster form, produced for the export market during the late Meiji or Taisho periods. The first vase is a Satsuma-style example featuring a cream-coloured crackle glaze ground decorated with hand-painted polychrome enamels and gilding. The decoration depicts floral motifs including peonies and chrysanthemums alongside a crane in flight. The vase is designed with twin moulded and gilded handles, a flared scalloped rim, and a pedestal base with a mustard-yellow glaze. The second vase features a wide flared rim and a ribbed pedestal base. Its exterior is decorated with figurative panels depicting characters in traditional attire within landscape settings, bordered by red and gold geometric diaper patterns on a dark ground.
