Lot 17 A George III Style Yew Wood Two-Drawer Filing Cabinet

A George III style yew wood two-drawer filing cabinet of one-piece construction, likely dating from the late 20th century. The rectangular top is decorated with quartered veneers, crossbanded borders, and inlaid boxwood stringing. The front is configured with two deep drawers designed for office use, each opening on runners to reveal metal rails for suspension files. The drawer fronts display highly figured veneers with crossbanded edges and are fitted with brass drop handles on decorative backplates. The piece is supported on a continuous moulded plinth base. The metal lock plate on the top edge of the drawers bears several stamped marks: on the left H O B B S and C o above a royal coat of arms and L O N D O N; in the centre below a rectangular cutout BY APPOINTMENT; on the right PATENT above a second royal coat of arms and PROPRIETORS. These marks identify the locks as being manufactured by the renowned London firm Hobbs and Company.
