Lot 16 A Late Victorian Carved Mahogany and Burr Walnut Three-Door Breakfront Wardrobe

A substantial late Victorian breakfront wardrobe, circa 1890, primarily constructed from dark-stained mahogany or walnut. The piece features an elaborate swan-neck pediment with a central pierced scrollwork crest and a carved diamond-shaped foliate motif above a moulded cornice. The front configuration consists of three doors; the central door is inset with a tall arched mirror plate, while the two outer doors are divided into two panels. The upper square panels of the side doors feature deep-relief carvings of floral and husk motifs, and the lower rectangular panels are inlaid with highly figured burr walnut veneer. The base section contains two wide drawers with matching burr walnut veneered fronts, each fitted with two circular brass ring-pull handles on scrolled backplates. The wardrobe is raised on a simple, continuous plinth base. The construction shows horizontal moulding lines, indicating the piece disassembles into separate components including the cornice, the main carcase, and the drawer base for transport.
