A British military steel ammunition container of the H83 pattern. The box is constructed from pressed steel with a side-clamping latch and a folding wire carry handle mounted to the lid. The lid incorporates a rubber gasket for a moisture-resistant seal. This example features a bright yellow overpaint applied over the original olive drab finish. Visible stencilled markings on the front face include the word CARTRIDGES, followed by a partially obscured line containing N001, and a bottom line indicating NEQ 0.400Kg. A diamond-shaped hazard symbol outline is visible on the right side. The markings indicate the container was used for transporting cartridges with a net explosive quantity of 0.4 kilograms.
