The medal was awarded for non-operational service in the Armed Forces, Home Guard, and Civil Defence services between 3 September 1939 and 8 May 1945. The reverse design features the Royal Crown resting on an oak tree, flanked by two lions rampant. The inscriptions include the dates 1939 and 1945, along with the legend THE DEFENCE MEDAL. The medal is complete with its original straight-bar suspender. The edge naming is not visible, though British issues were typically awarded unnamed. The ribbon is absent from this lot.
