Lot 373 A Late 19th Century German Westerwald Salt-Glazed Stoneware Ring Jug

This late 19th-century German stoneware jug is an example of the Historismus style from the Westerwald region. The vessel features a distinctive hollow, annular or ring-shaped body mounted on a circular pedestal base. It is constructed from salt-glazed stoneware, exhibiting a characteristic grey body with a textured orange-peel finish. The decoration consists of elaborate moulded relief work, highlighted with hand-applied cobalt blue slip. Motifs include bands of floral rosettes, scrolling foliage, and imbricated patterns on the handle and neck. The jug is designed with a flared neck, a shaped pouring spout, and a decorative recurved handle featuring a small ceramic ring suspended from a loop at its base. No maker marks or factory stamps are visible on the exterior surfaces.
