A Royal Commemorative glazed stoneware bottle, typically used as a whisky decanter, produced to mark the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911. The piece features a bulbous body and narrow neck finished in a deep green glaze, with a contrasting buff-coloured band at the shoulder. The front is decorated with applied white sprigged relief work depicting two crossed flags containing portrait medallions of the King and Queen, surmounted by a royal crown and tied with a ribbon at the base. The buff-coloured shoulder bears the printed inscription Coronation. of George Vth & Queen Mary June. 22nd 1911. The neck is further embellished with an applied white floral sprig. No factory marks are visible on the exterior; however, the form and sprigged decoration are characteristic of commemorative stoneware produced during the early 20th century by makers such as Doulton Lambeth or Spode.
