A mid-20th-century military steel ammunition box, commonly utilised for the storage and transport of small arms calibre ammunition. The box is of rectangular form, constructed from pressed steel with a hinged lid. It is fitted with a top-mounted, folding wire carry handle and a robust side-toggle latch. The item retains a base layer of olive drab green paint, consistent with military issue from the WWII to Cold War period. While visually similar to boxes produced by manufacturers such as Burrowes Mfg. Co., no maker’s stamps or stencilled markings are currently visible.
