An ethnographic hand drum of East African origin, consistent with traditional Kenyan or Tanzanian craftsmanship. The instrument is constructed around a cylindrical, hand-carved wooden core that is entirely encased in a thick, long-haired animal pelt, possibly goat or antelope. It features a single drum head made from a piece of tautly stretched animal hide that retains its natural brown and cream spotted markings. The outer fur covering is secured to the body, creating a shaggy textured finish typical of regional folk instruments used in dance and ceremony. No maker marks or inscriptions are present on the object.
