A taxidermy specimen of a Red Grouse (Lagopus lagopus scotica), dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The bird is a full mount, presented in a standing, alert pose facing left. It displays the characteristic dense, reddish-brown plumage of the species, featuring intricate black barring and distinctive white feathering covering the legs and feet. The specimen is set within a naturalistic base composed of dried grasses and mosses. It is housed under a traditional tall glass cloche which rests upon an oval ebonised wooden base. No taxidermist labels or provenance marks are visible on the base or within the display.
