The scene depicts Douglas C-47 Dakota transport aircraft during the first day of Operation Market Garden on 17th September 1944, dropping paratroopers and supplies over the landing zones at Renkum Heath. The print was produced to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the action by the 1st Airborne Division. This example is hand-signed in pencil to the lower left margin by Major General John Dutton Frost CB DSO MC DL, the former Commanding Officer of the 2nd Parachute Battalion. The artist’s signature and date are printed within the plate at the lower right. The lower margin features the Pegasus emblem of the British Airborne Forces on the left and the Parachute Regiment cap badge on the right, flanking a printed description of the historical event. The work is presented in a simple gilt-edged frame.
