A mid-century industrial metal single pedestal desk, in the style often referred to as a tanker desk. The unit features a steel body with a dark brown or olive-drab painted finish and a rectangular top surface finished in dark linoleum or laminate with protective metal edge banding. The desk is configured with a central shallow lap drawer over the kneehole and a right-hand pedestal containing two drawers: a standard utility drawer and a deeper filing drawer below. The pedestal drawers are equipped with brushed metal D-shaped pull handles. A lock barrel is located at the top of the pedestal, though no key is included. A small circular indentation on the front of the central lap drawer suggests the original location of a manufacturer’s badge. This utilitarian style of furniture was widely produced in the mid-to-late 20th century by manufacturers such as Roneo, Vickers, or Art Metal for use in commercial and government offices.
