A twentieth-century decorative figure of a seated crowned Buddha, drawing inspiration from Southeast Asian and specifically Burmese Shan iconography. The figure is depicted in the Dhyana Mudra, or meditation gesture, with hands resting in the lap, and is seated upon a double lotus pedestal. The Buddha wears a tiered, ornate crown and monastic robes. The object is manufactured from a cast composite or plaster-like material, finished with a gold-coloured surface coating over a reddish-brown base layer. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the body of the figure.
