Lot 361 West German Mid-Century Modern Ceramic Drip Glaze Pitcher

A mid-century modern ceramic pitcher or ewer, produced in West Germany. The piece features a bulbous, globular body tapering to a tall, narrow neck which terminates in a distinctive elongated and flared pulled spout. It is fitted with a single loop handle. The exterior is finished in a glossy drip-glaze technique, featuring vertical streaks of ochre and mustard yellow over a dark chocolate-brown ground. The unglazed base is incised with the word GERMANY, along with the numbers 287 and 17 separated by a horizontal line, indicating the form number and height in centimetres. This marking style and form are consistent with West German manufacturers from the 1960s or 1970s, most notably Scheurich.
