A framed and glazed colour print after an original 1988 work by British military artist Peter Archer. The scene, titled Fighting Spirit, portrays British infantrymen during a trench assault on the Western Front during the First World War. The soldiers are equipped in standard service dress and Brodie helmets, carrying Short Magazine Lee-Enfield rifles with fixed bayonets. A leading figure is shown directing the advance with a service revolver. The foreground contains fallen soldiers and a Lewis light machine gun, set against a background of a shell-pocked landscape and artillery bursts. The print is signed Peter Archer and dated 1988 within the artwork at the lower right. The title Fighting Spirit and the surname Archer are printed centrally on the lower white border. The piece is housed in a wooden frame with a gold-coloured inner slip.
