An early 20th-century chest of drawers of utilitarian form, possibly intended for use as a collector’s or clerk’s chest. The piece is constructed from stained oak with secondary pine linings to the drawers. The carcase features a flat top over a configuration of seven drawers, comprising four small drawers in two tiers above three long, graduated drawers. Each drawer front is decorated with horizontal reeded moulding and is fitted with a pair of brass swan-neck drop handles on shaped backplates. The chest is supported by a simple, solid plinth base.
