Lot 101 An Edwardian Mahogany Wardrobe by J. R. Cross

An Edwardian mahogany breakfront-style wardrobe manufactured by J. R. Cross of the Dalston Cabinet Works, London. The piece is constructed from mahogany with secondary wood linings, likely pine. It features a central full-length door containing a large inset oval mirror, flanked by two fixed side panels. These panels are decorated with applied carved neoclassical motifs in relief, depicting a ribbon bow suspending a floral pendant within an oval garland of husks. The unit is surmounted by a deep, moulded projecting cornice and is supported by a plinth base containing a single full-width drawer. The base drawer is fitted with two brass swan-neck handles on decorative backplates, and the central door has a brass ring pull and a matching keyhole escutcheon. The interior is fitted for hanging garments with several brass hooks and two pull-out metal garment rails attached to the top.
