Lot 347:
Description
A mid-century modern six-arm chandelier, frequently referred to as a sputnik or atomic light, dating from the 1950s or 1960s. The fixture is constructed from brass, featuring six curved arms that radiate from a central circular hub. Each arm terminates in a tapered, cone-shaped socket cover finished in a vibrant red plastic. The chandelier is suspended from a central stem and includes a white circular ceiling rose. This design is highly characteristic of mid-20th-century European domestic lighting, with visually similar examples often attributed to Italian manufacturers such as Stilnovo or German makers like Kaiser Leuchten. The fixture is designed for use with exposed bulbs and is currently fitted with a variety of mismatched candle-style bulbs.
