Description
This mid-century modern compact wardrobe, also known as a compactum, was manufactured by E. Gomme Ltd of High Wycombe under the G-Plan brand. Part of the Tola and Black range introduced in the late 1950s, the unit is finished in a dark-toned Tola (African mahogany) veneer. The piece features a two-door construction. The upper door opens to an open storage compartment intended for hanging garments, while the lower door is inset with a central, vertical rectangular mirror. The unit is fitted with two horizontal brass-toned metal pull handles and is supported by four black-painted tapered legs terminating in brass-capped adjustable levelling feet. The interior of the upper door features a gold-toned E. Gomme G-Plan stamp and a gold adhesive label for the retailer Times Furnishing.
