Description
This lot consists of a collection of approximately 23 individual parts of the serialised publication Modern Masterpieces: The Finest Art Production of the Century, published by George Newnes Limited, London, circa 1935-1936. The group includes Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23. These fortnightly installments were originally sold for one shilling each and were designed to contain five colour plates per issue. The items are staple-bound in original illustrated tan paper wrappers. Cover artworks feature pieces by various Royal Academicians and notable artists of the period, including George Spencer Watson, Dod Procter, Dame Laura Knight, Theodore Roussel, Vincent Van Gogh, Norman Wilkinson, Charles Sims, and William Strang. The series was projected to reach about 24 parts in total.
