Description
A Japanese export earthenware vase of baluster form, featuring a waisted neck and a flared, scalloped rim. The body is flanked by two applied stylised scroll handles. The decoration is executed in the Satsuma style on a predominant orange-red ground. The central body displays hand-painted polychrome floral cartouches, including chrysanthemums and other blossoms in shades of blue, red, and white with green foliage. The upper section is embellished with cream-coloured cloud-style borders, accented with raised white enamel dots using the moriage technique and gilded scroll patterns. A circular medallion containing a stylised floral motif is positioned on the neck. The vase stands on an integral circular pedestal base. No maker’s marks are visible on the base or body.
