Lot 271:
Description
This lot consists of two 20th-century German lidded beer steins. The first is a large musical stein featuring a relief-moulded scene of a man and woman in traditional Bavarian dress dancing within an outdoor setting. The handle is textured to resemble wood grain. The underside features a circular wooden base plate housing a mechanical musical movement with a metal winding key and central pin. The second item is a commemorative lidded beer stein manufactured by Simon Peter Gerz I. The body displays a relief-moulded cityscape of Munich, identifying the twin domes of the Frauenkirche, decorated with floral edelweiss motifs and the date 1972. The base of this stein retains a triangular gold foil manufacturer label reading GERZ W. GERMANY. Both vessels are constructed from glazed ceramic with relief-moulded decoration and are fitted with pewter-tone metal lids and thumb lifts.
