Description
A Victorian walnut presentation writing slope featuring a domed lid and figured wood construction. The lid is inset with a brass shield-shaped plaque engraved with the inscription: PRESENTED TO Hy. G. Barkly BY THE TEACHERS & SCHOLARS OF ST SIMON’S SCHOOL LEEDS DECR 22ND 1871. The box includes a brass escutcheon to the front and opens to a fitted interior. This interior contains a blue plush-lined writing surface with decorative embossed borders, a pen tray, and a single glass inkwell fitted with a brass screw-top lid.
