Description
A footed earthenware bowl manufactured by the Franz Anton Mehlem factory in Bonn, Germany. The exterior body features a transfer-printed naturalistic scene depicting two mallard ducks in flight over a marshy landscape with reeds and water. This scene is set against an airbrushed ground of graduated pale blue and violet tones. The bowl is supported by a raised circular foot with a textured green glaze finish, and the rim is detailed with a thin dark border. The interior of the bowl is finished in a plain cream glaze. The base bears a green printed manufacturer mark consisting of a stylized tower containing the word BONN above the letter M, with a banner across the centre inscribed FRANZ ANT. MEHLEM and the word GERMANY below. A faint, illegible impressed mark is also present on the base.
