Lot 230 A large Italian Chinoiserie style ceramic baluster vase attributed to Ardalt

A large ceramic baluster-form vase, likely of porcelain or ironstone construction, featuring a design influenced by Chinoiserie and Japanese Imari palettes. The piece is attributed to the Italian importer Ardalt, or possibly the maker Y.P. Derevua, based on the distinctive decorative pattern. The decoration comprises two large, shaped cartouches to the main body, each depicting a pair of long-tailed birds, likely stylised peacocks or phoenixes, among flowering branches and peonies. These panels are set against a white ground with scrolling foliate and floral borders. The waisted neck features a band of scrolling flowers on an iron-red ground, above a ruyi-head border. The decoration is executed through a combination of transfer-printed outlines and hand-painted polychrome enamel infills in a vibrant palette including cobalt blue, iron red, pink, and yellow. No factory marks are visible to the exterior; an auction inventory sticker bearing the numerals 02 is adhered to the interior of the rim.
