A Japanese Kutani porcelain tripod censer and matching cover, dating to the Meiji period (1868–1912). The vessel is decorated with a central frieze in underglaze blue and white, depicting figures in a landscape among bamboo. One figure is shown holding a scroll inscribed with the character 壽, representing longevity. The remainder of the body, handles, and cover are finished in an iron-red overglaze enamel with gilded scrolling foliate highlights. The censer features two moulded shishi handles and stands on three moulded feet. The domed cover is surmounted by a shishi-form finial. This style of porcelain was produced in Japan for the export market during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
