The item is constructed from a combination of die-cast metal and plastic components. The locomotive is mounted on a fixed length of plastic display track attached to a black plastic plinth. The side of the locomotive features a nameplate with the text MALLARD and the cab sides bear the running number 4468. The tender is marked with the spaced letters L N E R. A printed label on the front of the display plinth features the text 1938: Class A4 No. 4468 Mallard, flanked by a Union Jack flag and a heraldic crest.
