This mid-century modern tallboy chest of drawers is from the Brandon range, manufactured by G-Plan (E. Gomme Ltd) in High Wycombe, England, during the early to mid-1950s. The piece is constructed with an oak-veneered carcase and features four long drawers with contrasting light cream lacquered fronts, a signature design element of the early Brandon line. Each drawer is equipped with a pair of brass-toned metal loop handles and exhibits standard joinery for the period. The chest is supported by four square-tapered legs, each fitted with an adjustable brass ferrule at the foot. The interior of one drawer bears a gold-embossed maker’s mark featuring a stylized EG in a rounded square border, inscribed with HIGH WYCOMBE and E GOMM LTD, with G-PLAN stamped vertically to the right. This item represents the British utility-to-modern transitional period.
