A small-scale portrait bust depicting the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The item is fashioned from unglazed white bisque porcelain, or Parian ware, depicting the subject with a full beard and moustache, wearing a buttoned coat and a high-collared shirt. The bust is mounted on an integral, circular stepped socle base. The pedestal features a raised rectangular nameplate on the front embossed with the inscription TSCHAIKOWSKY. This style of commemorative bust was a popular decorative item for libraries and music rooms during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
