An antique cast iron balance scale and a group of weights. The scale is constructed with a black-painted cast iron base and beam mechanism. It features a fixed circular metal platform and a removable scoop-shaped pan, possibly made of brass or tinned sheet metal. The side of the base is decorated with a gold-coloured transfer decal depicting a heraldic emblem with two figures flanking a central shield under a crown. Below the emblem is a scroll which likely contains a manufacturer name, though the text is illegible. The design is in the style of domestic scales produced by British manufacturers such as Salter or F. J. Thornton and Co. during the late 19th or early 20th century. The group includes three circular cast iron weights of varying sizes. The largest weight is embossed with the mark 2 lb.
