This vintage balanced-arm task lamp is a Model 1227 Anglepoise desk lamp manufactured by Herbert Terry and Sons Ltd of Redditch. The piece features the iconic three-spring counterbalance mechanism and is supported by a heavy, stepped circular metal base. The lamp is constructed from painted metal and includes a conical metal shade and an articulated arm. The metal fork at the lower pivot point is embossed with the following text: MADE IN ENGLAND BY HERBERT TERRY and SONS LTD REDDITCH. The lamp is fitted with a white flex cable and a standard UK three-pin plug. This item is an example of mid-20th-century British industrial design.
