This vintage ceramic Rumtopf jar and cover is a characteristic example of West German pottery from the mid-20th century, circa 1970. The vessel is constructed from glazed earthenware with a bulbous ovoid form and two small loop handles. The body is finished in a glossy oxblood red glaze featuring a fine vertical corduroy texture and dark, nearly black detailing around the rim. Centrally, the jar is decorated with the relief-moulded word RUMTOPF positioned above a rope-twist circular border containing a fruit motif, possibly a peach or plum. The matching domed cover is topped with a simple finial. While this style is frequently associated with manufacturers such as Scheurich, no factory marks are visible in the provided images.
