A Royal Doulton large glazed earthenware character jug titled Sancho Panca, model number D6456, designed by Geoff Blower and issued from 1956. The piece depicts the character as a jocular bearded man wearing a wide-brimmed black hat and white collar with a blue ribbon. The handle is modelled in the form of a hand clutching a wine skin. The jug is decorated with hand-painted polychrome enamels under a clear glossy glaze. The base features an underglaze black backstamp with the Royal Doulton lion and crown mark above the title Sancho Panca (Servant to Don Quixote), D. 6456., COPR. 1956., and DOULTON & CO. LIMITED. Registration numbers Rd No 881510, Rd No 35706, Rd No 7561, and Rd No 332/56 are also present, alongside a green hand-painted numeral 7 and an indistinct red mark.
