A chinese desk. The piece is fashioned from a dark-stained hardwood and features a five-drawer configuration, comprising a wide central drawer over the kneehole flanked by two smaller drawers on either side. The drawer fronts are decorated with relief-carved foliate and scroll-work motifs, housing inset metal drop handles with a bronze-toned finish. The desk is supported by four slender cabriole legs terminating in scroll feet and features a decoratively shaped apron. The polished wood top is currently fitted with a removable protective sheet of plate glass. No maker’s marks, labels, or stamps were observed during inspection.
