This religious icon depicts the Theotokos Hodegetria, a traditional iconographic representation of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child who is shown holding a scroll. The item consists of a printed image mounted onto a solid wooden panel with a shaped arched top and a recessed central field known as a kovcheg. The work features traditional Greek abbreviations: MP ΘY (Meter Theou, Mother of God) positioned to the left of the Virgin and IC XC (Iesous Khristos, Jesus Christ) to the right of the Christ Child.
