Lot 387:
Description
This lot comprises two vintage British Union Jack flags. The first item is a printed cotton flag mounted on a turned wooden pole featuring a metal ferrule at the tip. The white canvas hoist of this flag is stamped with the mark BRITISH MADE, which appears in reverse on the visible side. The second item is a larger flag of multi-piece sewn construction, manufactured from individual sections of red, white, and blue fabric, likely cotton bunting, stitched together. The canvas hoist of the sewn flag also bears a BRITISH MADE stamp. These flags are of the type traditionally used for national celebrations and civilian patriotic display, as they do not bear specific regimental markings or the Broad Arrow. The construction of the sewn example is consistent with flags marketed as being from the early to mid-20th century.
