Lot 367:
Description
Attributed to Peerage, England. A pair of circular decorative wall plaques manufactured from embossed brass with a high-relief finish. The items feature muted polychrome pigments in red and ochre and are set within dark-toned, ebonised circular borders. The relief work depicts 17th-century style European genre scenes. One plaque illustrates a tavern interior with a woman seated by a cupboard and two men at a table, with a mounted stag head and clock in the background. The second plaque depicts three figures in a domestic interior with a longcase clock and a framed picture of a sailing vessel. The technique employs a dual-tone effect to highlight the figures against a darkened background. No maker’s marks are visible on the face of the plaques.
