Lot 306:
Description
This collection consists of three pieces of British art and studio pottery. The first item is a Doulton Lambeth stoneware vase of small footed form with a bulbous body and a wide flared rim. The exterior is finished in a speckled mauve-pink glaze and features applied relief decoration, including a central band of dark olive green foliate motifs and a band of beaded circular motifs below a dark brown rim. The base bears an impressed circular Doulton Lambeth rosette mark with the word England faintly visible, the impressed characters 8SQ, and the incised initials AW for the artist Arthur Wright.
The second item is a Marc Pottery lidded jar of bulbous form with a fitted lid and flat knob. Crafted from red earthenware, it is covered in a dark metallic brown glaze. The unglazed base is hand-incised with MARC and the initials TF, alongside an impressed FOLKESTONE mark. This piece is from the studio of Marc Bernier.
The third item is a small red earthenware studio pottery jug with a pinched pouring lip and a narrow neck over a rounded body. It is decorated with a sgraffito or combed technique using brown and white slips to create a banded, textured pattern. The unglazed base is incised with the stylized initials VW.
