Lot 253:
Description
A glazed white ceramic vase of baluster form, featuring a tapered body, a short neck, and a widely flared circular rim. The piece is decorated in a Chinoiserie style with an Imari-inspired palette of underglaze blue, iron red, yellow, and purple. The decoration consists of transfer-printed outlines with hand-painted polychrome enamel fills. The main body displays large shaped cartouches containing long-tailed exotic birds perched amongst flowering branches and foliage. These panels are framed by intricate floral and geometric borders. The neck is finished with a rich orange-red ground embellished with floral sprays and scrolling leaf motifs. This design is attributed to the maker Y. P. Derevua based on market consensus for identical wares. No factory marks are visible on the exterior of the vessel.
