Description
A mid-20th-century French earthenware vase produced in the Vallauris pottery centre. The vessel is of tall cylindrical form with a wide, hand-formed undulating rim. It is decorated with a thick, textured reactive glaze in tones of amber, ochre, and cream, applied over a dark brown to black glossy base glaze to create a volcanic or fat lava effect. The underside features an incised mark reading VALLAURIS beneath the glaze. The foot rim is unglazed.
