Lot 234:
Description
A collection of three devotional books. The first is an octavo-sized Bible bound in black pebbled leather with flexible yapp edges. The front cover features the title Holy Bible stamped in gilt. The volume is finished with gilt-under-red page edges and a textile ribbon marker. The second Bible is similarly bound in black leather with yapp edges and gilt-edged pages, consistent in style with King James Version editions produced by publishers such as Collins or Eyre and Spottiswoode during the early 1900s. The third item is a devotional book titled The Small Missal. It is bound in cream-coloured pearlescent celluloid boards with a cloth spine. The front cover is decorated with a gilt cross-and-star motif. The binding is secured by two ornate brass clasps. No title pages or publication dates are visible for definitive identification of the publishers.
